Well here we are, nearly half way through the first month of the new year. As I mentioned in my last post, I foolishly entered the One Game A Month challenge (1GAM) twice, so I thought it might be a good time to shed some light on what I’ve been up to. I’ve been working on way more than 2 games this month so far, but here are the two that I plan to submit for my “2GAM” entries:
猫肉 「CAT MEAT」
猫肉 「CAT MEAT」 is a casual, retro, 4-color platformer with a mean streak. You play as either 肉 (Niku) or 猫 (Neko) and try to make it through all 30 levels (while meteors crash into the ground all around you) to make sure your spouse, the cat you didn’t choose, is safe. The catch? Cats only have 9 lives. I actually started this game in the middle of 2012, but for whatever reason never finished it. It’s time for that to change. As of this writing, all of the levels have been finished and I’m just working on polishing up some menus and animations.
Space Game (Working Title)
I’m not sure what made me decide to make a 128×128 pixel 2-color shoot ‘em up using a single spritesheet of only 64×64 pixels, but that’s exactly what I’m doing. It’s your standard fare as far as shooters go – blow stuff up, earn achievements and unlock weapons to blow more stuff up. As of this writing I have the gameplay mechanics mostly complete. I’ll be spending some time making the bosses interesting and adding menus over the remaining weeks.
I apologize for the brevity of this post. My new Daily Art 2013 exercise has been keeping me way busier than I’d have liked. I might make some changes so I have more time to actually work on games instead of using it all on spamming art I won’t be using; we’ll see. Until then! じゃね~
